LEISURE TIME SPA DOWN is used to lower the ph of spa and hot tub water. It is important to maintain the pH between 7.2 and 7.8. The pH is effectively maintained by keeping total alkalinity between 80 ppm (Parts Per Million) and 120 ppm. pH and total alkalinity are related. Total alkalinity is the amount of "buffer" in the water (fourd in the form of carbonates and biocarbonates). These buffers do just that they buffer drastic change in pH, called "pH bounce." We recommend that you keep you alakinity between 80 to 120 ppm. Most water supplies are with in this range which means you shouldn't have to adjust this often if your changing your spa water every 3 to 4 months as reccomended.

Testing your alakalinty can be done with most test strips or 4 in 1 test kits. Do to the buffering effect that alkalinity has on pH it is our reccomendation that you always make sure it is in the range of 80 to 120 ppm before adjusting your pH. pH has one of the greatest effects on water balance. pH is a measure of how acidic or basic it is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. At 7.0 pH is neutral, anything below that is acidic and can lead to damage to equipment and the spa surface. pH abve 7.0 is basic. While spas run slighlty in the basic range of 7.2 to 7.8 a pH higher than 7.8 can cause minerals to "drop" out of solution leaving deposits on the equipement and the spa surface.

Testing your pH can be done with almost all test strips and test kits. After testing your pH if you are not in the range of 7.2 to 7.8 and your alkalinity is correct use the following tables to adjust you pH Remeber we are always available to help do not hesitate to email or call.

Always turn blowers off prior to adding any chemical. When increasing or decreasing total alkalinity never make an adjustment any greater than 40ppm in a 24 hour period
