Page Link Exchange
aka Harris Link Exchange
Incoming links truly are important, as I have seen one of my sites vacillate between #1
and #18 simply due to the existence (or non-existence) of a single incoming link. Most
website owners/optimizers are aware of the benefits (and necessity) of having other
websites link to you, so I'm going to assume that since you're here, you already know and
basically understand this (if you don't, you're probably not ready for this anyway :-).
I believe that the current way sites are "trading links", though frequently
quite helpful, leaves some room for improvement, possibly vast
improvement. As a normal links page grows with more and more links, it becomes more likely
that all the links will not be followed by a search engine spider. As a normal links page
grows, it itself becomes less relevant thereby giving less relevance to the pages it links
to. As a normal links page grows, at some point the search engine might consider it a FFA
page and just ignore it all together. Who knows what the future holds, there may come a
time when the current link-exchange format actually hurts the site it's on. Regardless, I
feel a Page Link Exchange could vastly improve upon the current link exchange.
What the heck is a Page Link Exchange?
First off, yes, it's probably a bit more work (though not much more) than the current
link change method. However, I feel the increased relevancy of it by far makes up for the
extra work.
This page, is a rough example of a page link. It consists of 3 tables, the top table
(header), the bottom table (footer), and the middle table (the table this text appears
in). If this were a true Page Link web page, the middle table would contain info from the
site being traded with. Another example can be found HERE.
Basically, the header and footer belongs to the site hosting the page, and the middle is
submitted by the site it features. The lead in "link exchange" page would look
similar to the current method, but instead of linking to the other sites, it would link to
these "Page Link Exchange" pages (HERE's my
example).
Sooooooooo, is it much more work? I don't really think so. I would request the exact
HTML from the site wanting the link and simply paste it into a template html page that
already contains my header and footer (THEY host any graphics displayed on their part of
the page). Then load it to the server and link to it on my Page
Exchange index page
And the advantages are?
First of all, this overcomes the possible problems/disadvantages of a traditional link
exchange mentioned earlier. There are some other interesting possible advantages.
- The number of pages on your site would increase, possibly dramatically. Search engines
"can" give more importance to larger websites.
- There's little if any likelihood of any of these pages being considered spam. All the
"Page Link Exchange" pages you would host would be quite different since the
majority is written by the site it's linked to, and the various websites with pages
linking back to you all have different footers and headers.
- An incoming link from a site with content similar to yours is always better than a link
from Joe Blow. But all the sites I know that have similar content to me are competitors,
and in this lifetime there's no chance of them "helping" me with a link. With
the Harris Link Exchange, now Joe Blow now has an individual page very
relevant to yours, and it links directly to your site.
- YOU would have direct control over how the other site is linking back to you. Since YOU
provide the HTML for the center of the page, you can say what you want and even link to
MULTIPLE pages in your own website. Not only does this become a "backward" link,
but it also allows you to experiment with different key word phrases.
Harris who?
Harris Link Exchange... Yeah, named after me (initially my son's idea). I've been doing
websites for quite a long time, and have thought up a lot of innovating (non-technical)
ideas. For the first 6 months after I implement some cool new thing I get lots of email
from consumers complimenting me on it, then, all my competitors steal it. No real big
deal, it seems to be "website industry standard". Just once though I'd like to
get a little bit of recognition, and some of what Rodney Dangerfield never got ;-)
This idea is still in it's basic form and I know it's open for improvement, possibly
quite a bit. PLEASE
Contact
me with any
suggestion or ideas you might have............ and of course if you'd like to trade
"Page Links". |
