Nature2

What makes Nature² the #1 natural alternative to chlorine (and bromine)?

Spa Purifier Nature2, with it's breakthrough technology, uses a uniquely patented mineral process that kills bacteria on contact,  faster than chlorine. And being powered by water flow, there's no electricity and no moving parts. It reduces the chemical consumption and the time you spend caring for your spa. Nature² water is brilliantly clear, soft and safe. Water purity you can see and feel !

Nature2 is a water purification technology for spas and hot tubs that gives the purest, clearest water imaginable. Nature² products use the same minerals found in nature to trap bacteria and algae. Because Nature2 traps bacteria and algae, less harsh chemicals are needed to keep your spa water balanced.

By using Nature², you reduce the level of harsh chemicals between 50% and 80% versus the harsh chemical levels you would need without Nature2.

FAQ

Q: How do I know if Nature2 is working?
A: The best test is improved water quality. You'll notice a big difference. Visual clarity and sparkle, even at low oxidizer levels show Nature² is working properly.
Q: After it's installed, will water maintenance change?
A: Yes, you will dramatically reduce chemicals use and maintenance time. Water balance will be easier, meaning there's simply less to do.
Q: Do I still need to use chlorine? Why?
A: Yes, you need to use a small amount of residual oxidizer. With Nature2 you can reduce this amount by 50% to 80%. For superior results, we recommend low levels of free chlorine (0.5 ppm free chlorine minimum). You won't feel, smell or be affected by chlorine at this level.
Q: Are low levels of minerals safer in a spa?
A: Yes, water treated by Nature² actually meets and exceeds EPA drinking water standards for bacteria, silver and copper. Is Nature2 compatible with other products? Nature² can be used with every type of chemical treatment program available except bromine and bromide based chemicals, biguanide products (Baquacil* or SoftSwim**) and copper-based algaecides.
Q: Is Nature2 a filter?
A: No. A filter removes particles and debris, while Nature² purifies water by trapping bacteria and algae, which are too small to be caught by a filter. You still need a filter when using a Nature2 system.
Q: Is Nature² an "ionizer"?
A: No. Ionizers electrically discharge copper (or metal alloy) ions into water. Ionizers can deliver ions via an electrical current (electrodes) or salt dissolution. When do I replace the cartridge? Each model comes with a reminder to tell you when to replace it.
Q: What affects cartridge life?
A: Nothing — including filter run time, heavy use, hot weather, and water temperature.
Q: How do I dispose of used cartridges?
A: The minerals inside Nature2 are natural, so it is safe for disposal with other household trash.
Q: How often do I need to super-oxidize (shock)?
A: Because of the efficiency of Nature², super-oxidation is needed much less often. You only need to super-oxidize if the water becomes dull or cloudy. The start-up of each new cartridge requires an initial shock with chlorine.

Directions for Use

It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Nature2 Spa Compatibility

Attention: Not to be used with product containing bromine, sodium bromide, or biguanides. If these products are being used, be sure to drain and refill the spa with fresh water.

Start-Up

Before using a new Nature2 Spa, clean debris and algae out of the spa and spa equipment.
Important: Do not install the new Nature2 Spa until the spa water is clean and chemically balanced.

Balance the Water

To find out if your spa water is balanced, take a water sample to your dealer to be tested or ask your dealer to recommend a spa test kit for water balance. Consult with your Nature2 dealer for specific water balance instructions.

Proper Balance for Nature2 Spa:

• pH  7.2-7.6
• Calcium Hardness  200-400 ppm
• Total Alkalinity  80-120 ppm
• Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)  300-2000 ppm

2

Element: pH

Range: 7.2-7.6

If too low:

The surface of your spa can become etched. Metal parts in the pump and plumbing will corrode.

How to fix: Add pH increaser.
If too high:

"Scale" forms on the surface of your spa. The water can become cloudy. Equipment can become damaged.

How to fix: Add pH decreaser.

Element: Calcium Hardness

Range: 200-400 ppm

If too high:

Rough, discolored deposits ("scale") will form on the spa surface and inside spa equipment.

How to fix:

Drain or dilute the spa water. Consult your dealer.

Element:Total Alkalinity

Range: 80-120 ppm

If it's too low:

It provides no buffer so that you constantly get fluctuating pH readings, which can damage equipment and spa surfaces.

How to fix: Use an alkalinity increaser.
If it's too high: The water becomes cloudy or milky white.
How to fix: Add acid to bring alkalinity down.

Install the Nature2 Spa

The Nature2 Spa is designed to fit most portable spas. Zodiac assumes no liabilities for the product if installed in any way other than the methods described in this manual.

  1. Drain and refill your spa. Balance the water per spa manufacturer guidelines.
  2. Install the Nature2 Spa after water is balanced. Refer to Assembly and Installation Diagrams below for instructions regarding your particular model's installation.
  3. Superoxidize the spa water with an EPA registered source of chlorine according to manufacturer's instructions to burn off contaminants and activate cartridge. Important: Initial superoxidation with dichlor1 is required to burn off contaminants and activate cartridge.
    • Add 1.5 tablespoons of dichlor to spa per 250 gallons (approx. 1000 liters). Note: 1.5 tablespoons is approximately 3/4 oz or 24 grams.
    • Do not enter the spa if the free available chlorine residual is over 5 ppm.
  4. Run spa according to recommendations supplied to you by the manufacturer of your spa.

Assembly

The Nature2 Spa comes in three parts; the main body (A) and two support stems (B, and C).

1 Connect the support stems together and press onto main body to create a single device as shown.

2. Slide the entire device into the core of your existing spa filter cartridge. See examples below.
Open Top: Slide unit in from the top. Position near the top half of the cartridge. (Support stems may be cut to position the cartridge correctly.)
Open Top with Stand Pipe: Some spa filter systems are configured with a standpipe running the length of the filter core. Simply slide unit in from the top. Position near the top half of the cartridge for easy retrieval.
Closed Top: Slide unit in from the bottom. Position unit to rest on shelf inside filter core.

When installed, the Nature2 Spa must be at least 1" (2.5 cm)
above the bottom of the filter to prevent blocking water flow.

Operation and Maintenance

This is one recipe for maintaining clean, clear, sanitized water with minimum time and effort. This recipe provides the easiest and most economical way to care for your Nature2 Spa.

Low-Chlorine Recipe

Ingredients:

Follow the simple steps below to maintain your Nature2 Spa.

When: What to do:
Every day

Run spa according to recommendations supplied to you by the manufacturer of your spa.

Before each use Test the water with Nature2 Spa Test Strip (or equivalent). If the MPS2 level is low, add 1 tablespoon of MPS2 to spa per 250 gallons (approx. 1000 liters). Note: 1 tablespoon is approximately 1/2 ounce or 16 grams Use the Nature2 Spa Test Strip (or equivalent) to test the spa water after each addition of MPS2. If the test strip indicates levels below the OK range, add 1 tablespoon MPS2 to spa per 250 gallons and re-test. Enter spa only after test strip indicates a sufficient level of MPS2.
After each use

Add 1 tablespoon of MPS2 to spa per 250 gallons (approx. 1000 liters).

Once per week

Adjust the pH, total alkalinity, and hardness as needed. A convenient way to test pH and total alkalinity is the Nature2 Spa Test Strip.

Every 4 months  Drain and refill your spa. Replace Nature2 Spa and repeat sanitizer start-up.
As needed

Shock treat with 1.5 tablespoons of an EPA registered source of dichlor1 per 250 gallons (approx. 1000 liters) to remedy problems which may occur when bathing loads are high, when successive MPS2 test strip reading indicate high demand, when water appears hazy or dull, when unpleasant odors or eye irritation occur, after heavy wind and rainstorms or if foam develops.

Note: As an alternative to MPS2, an EPA registered source of dichlor1 may be substituted: 1 tablespoon dichlor1 = approximately 3 tablespoons MPS2.
Important: Perform start-up procedures for spas which have been unused or unattended. The Nature2 Spa is not to be used with products containing bromine, sodium bromide or biguanides. If these products are being used, DRAIN AND REFILL SPA WITH FRESH WATER.

Filtration and Circulation

Follow the manufacturer's directions for keeping the circulating pump in good working order and operate it at least four hours a day. Consult your Nature2 Spa dealer for optimum run times.

Check the spa filter periodically and clean it as recommended by the manufacturer.

1 Sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate
2 Potassium peroxymonosulfate
3 MPS may cause a lowering of the pH and total alkalinity of your spa water. Please monitor pH and total alkalinity at least once per week and adjust accordingly.
4 Nature2 Spa Test Strips are available at your local Zodiac Nature2 Dealer.
