The Natural
(Directions for The Natural & The Natural Purge)

The Natural Purge

The Natural Purge is used one time to rid your spa of any contaminants or byproducts left from spa & chemical use. It is recommended that the spa not be used during the purge process.

  1. Remove your filter from the spa. Do not put filter back into spa until The Natural start up. It is at this time that it is recommended that the filter be soaked in a filter cleaning solution to give it a deep cleaning.
  2. Using the heated water already in the spa, add one 16-oz. Bottle of The Natural Purge. If the spa is five years old or older it is necessary to use 32 oz of The Natural Purge.
  3. Make sure the spa is at least 90 degrees and circulates for a minimum of 8 hours per day for 5 days.
  4. After 5 days, drain the spa and flush the spa with fresh water. Make sure to clean the surface of the spa and to remove as much of the old water as possible. It is also recommended that both sides of the spa cover be cleaned and disinfected at this time, because if there is any odors or mildew built up in the cover this can transfer into your fresh spa water (a mild solution of water and bleach works great).
  5. Now you are ready for The Natural.

The Natural Start Up

The purge process is not necessary for all new spas but it is best that 4 oz. Non-chlorine shock (Renew)or 2 teaspoons of di-chlor are added to the fresh water to rid the spa of any contaminants that may remain in the lines of the spa during the manufacturing and water testing processed.

  1. Fill your spa with fresh water, place a clean filter into your spa and heat your spa to normal temperature.
  2. Depending on the metal content in the water in your area, a metal coagulator (Metal Gon) may be necessary. (Check with your Natural dealer for recommendation in your area. We ALWAYS recommend the use of a metal coagulator, Metal Gon, with fresh water).
  3. Once spa is at least 90 degrees, add one 16-oz. bottle of The Natural to your new spa water.

The Natural Maintenance

  1. Rinse your filter with hot water or in your dishwasher at least once a week. If spa has heavy or frequent uses the filter will need to be rinsed more frequently. When using a filter cleaning solution, be sure to thoroughly rinse it from the cartridge to prevent any possible foaming to occur.
  2. Add 4 oz. of non-chlorine shock to the spa once per week (or 2 tsp. of di-chlor).
  3. Add a new 16oz. Bottle of The Natural once every three months.
  4. Drain the spa water and start fresh at least once per year.
  5. If the water gets cloudy, add 2oz. of Sea-Klear 4 in 1 Clarifier water clairifier.

Ideal pH for The Natural is 8.0 to 8.4. Given time and a bit of patience, the pH level in the spa will usually adjust itself, but a pH increase or decreaser can be added to the spa water if you wish.

Hardness level should be 175ppm to 300ppm. Low calcium hardness can cause foaming to occur. Wait 1 week after adding TNHT to test and adjust. Leisure Time Calcium Booster is perfect for raising the hardness if necessary.

Total Alkalinity should be 80-120. If you have high TA use Spa Down (Sodium Bisulfate) to lower the TA, add 1 teaspoon to a bucket of water and dissolve it before adding it to the spa, test 1/2 hour later and do it again if necessary, repeat as needed. Once the TA is inline, if you need to raise the pH use soda ash.

The Natural Hints and Troubleshooting

The best rule of thumb to go by when using The Natural is; the cleaner the filter, the cleaner the spa will stay using The Natural.

At some point during your three-month use of The Natural you may get a residue on the surface of your spa, simply wipe clean with a soft rag or sponge and rinse your filter a few hours later. The residue is the reaction that the positively charged ions in The Natural have to the negatively charged ions in the surface of your spa. This is completely normal and is easily removed.

If a large number of bathers have used the spa:

Once you have finished using the spa, add two ounces of non-chlorine shock (Renew) and/or 4 to 6 ounces of a water clarifier (Sea-Klear 4 in 1 Clarifier). Run the filter cycle for a few hours and than rinse the filter. If left alone The Natural will get the spa water back to clear, but this process can take anywhere form 24-48 hours, by adding shock or water clarifier and rinsing the filter this will help speed up the recovery time.

If the spa water becomes cloudy:

Cloudy water is a condition that is created by:

  • Frequent use of the spa
  • A large number of bathers at one time
  • Or lotions, oils, deodorants, sunscreen or other products used on the skin or in bathing suits.

To clear up cloudy water:

  • Make sure spa users and bathing suits are as clean as possible.
  • Make sure the filter has been rinsed with hot water.
  • Make sure the filtration system is running a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Four to six ounces of a water clarifier (Sea-Klear 4 in 1 Clarifier) can be used to aid in the recovery time of the spa water.
  • At times it is also important to be patient. The spa water will clear up and does not have to be drained if the water is cloudy; the spa and The Natural just need a little time to do their jobs.

If there is an organic or unpleasant smell in the spa:

At times you may experience an organic or unpleasant smell in your spa. This means that The Natural is working harder. To get rid of this smell simply rinse your filter an extra time or two. You can also add 4 oz. Of non-chlorine shock (Renew) or 2 teaspoons di-chlor to the water to speed up the recovery time.

  • This smell is an indication that The Natural is working to clean any contaminants that are in the spa. To remove the smell as quickly a possible:
  • Check to make sure that the underside of the cover has been cleaned.
  • Rinse the filter a couple of times to remove any additional contaminants that may be trapped in the filter.
  • If after 24 hours and the filter has been rinsed again there is still a smell present; two ounces of non-chlorine shock (Renew) may be used.
