Soverign 1996

In Response To: Hot Springs Spas (-)

I bought a Soverign brand new in 1996. In ten years I've had to replace the recirculating pump twice, the ozonator twice and had service calls for electrical problems 2-3 times. Now the Endural surface is cracked and leaking. They want $2000 to fix the tub. It loses about 15 gallons a day so I have to refill it twice a week to keep it full enough so the recirculating heating system doen't shut down. So I guess it's get rid of this tub and buy a new one or do without. I spent roughly $6000 on the tub and got ten years use out of it. $600 a year or roughly $2.00 per day to own not including the chemicals and filters and the cost to heat the water etc. but a lot of the costs would be incurred with any tub. If I buy a new tub I will purchase a cheaper smaller tub. When I factor in the number of times the tub was used the reality is a hot tub is an expense to own and it's use diminishes with time though we still get in it 2-3 times a month. If your looking to buy a hot tub realize that when the warranty runs out the tub is probably nearly worn out as well. So figure 5-10 yers maximum for the expense incurred.
