Excalibur 4000 / 2003

We bought the Renaissance Excalibur 4000 from Buckeye Spas in Columbus, Ohio. The dealer retired and sold the business to his son, who actually sold us our spa. You can email me if you want to know more about the dealer or this spa. We will have had it a year and half as of Sept '04. We still use it nearly everday and more than once/day frequently. We are still pleased with its overall performance and its ease of use. There are three of us, but I bought a 6 person tub for entertaining and the ability to move around and get different jets/therapy. We did get a model with the lounger and while its the least used seat, I'm glad its there. There are three things about the lounger I would improve. The first is, I would make the place where you feet go deeper and change the jets there to cover more of the foot than it now does. Second, I would move the jets that fall right behind my knees to higher up on the back of the thighs. Finally, there are two wrist jets and the left one is about 2" deeper in the water than the right one. It is impossible to use both wrist jets at the same time. Using the tub is great, I have it configured so each seat is its own massage experience. I did this by replacing some of the standard jets with different ones and moving some around. The jets are stainless steel ones from Waterways and each one is variable and removable. These jets are one of the spas best features. The dealer has been great with letting me trade in jets and buy others. We bought a floor model with waterfalls and color changing LEDs even though we didn't want those options. Now, we like the LEDs, but the waterfalls are still nothing more than a novelty. I am 6'2, my wife is 5'5, and our daughter is 5'4. We are all comfortable in all the seats with the exception that my wife does tend to float in the lounger if she is wearing her suit. No suit, no float! My younger, thinner daughter loves the lounger and has no problem floating. I love the seat with the neck/shoulder jets. They are extremely powerful, yet completely variable. Because they are above the waterline they are noisy in use, but that is no problem for me as they are on a separate control and you can run all the jets and leave them off. We bought the textured microban surface. I have no opinion on Microban, but this surface is really easy to keep clean and I think the texture helps reduce floatation problems (see above) by helping you stay in place. The surface still looks great and shows no sign of wear. I've found it pretty easy to keep the water clean and I'm just now replacing filters. This spa takes two filters that only cost $50-$60 to replace. My dealer gave me one extra filter at the time of purchase and I bought one more so I could always have a clean pair ready to go. Now after almost 18 months, I bought another pair and will retire the worst looking pair shortly. Pictures are available at http://billmccall.net/spa.html
