If you want to be prepared, just get a portable generator -- even a small one will do. All you need is enough power to run your furnace for a few hours a day (only a few amps), switching to other sensitive ciruits like fridge and freezers in between. With that you could also run a heat source (trouble light, space heater) to the spa's equipment bay to prevent things from freezing. Since tasker had access to power from the neighbors, they wouldn't have even needed a generator. I personally wouldn't have drained the tub until the water temps dropped into the 40's. While this might be a once in a lifetime storm in MO, usually power comes back on-line long before a well-insulated tub will freeze up (several days).
