Examine the pump seal area for yourself. Look closely at the area where the shaft exits the pump body. If you see water, white stains (salty looking) or rust stains, that is chemical damage. Such damage is almost universally excluded from a manufacturers warranty. If present, such chemical damage can damage a motor, especially the front motor bearing, because the motor air flow goes from the pump end to the back of the motor. Any moisture dribbling from the pump can get sucked right in, notwithstanding the fact that most motors have a so-called "slinger" to try to defend against this.
On the other hand, if the pump seal area is clean and dry, you have a solid case for warranty treatment.

: I have a Cal Spa also, bought a year and a half ago. Pump started making
: a terrible sound today. called the dealer here in san antonio where I
: purchased from and first thing they said is water problems are going
: to be an issue, and there are probably calcium deposits and that the
: pump seal was leaking into the bearings because of this ( pre excuses
: I guess) quoted about $699 for the pump if Cal Spa determines it is
: not covered under warranty. As a plus though, I have had jets fall
: out from day one and they replaced them, and he is bring some out
: when he comes for the service call on the pump next week. Anyone else
: have any stories on Cal Spa pumps failing?
