Re: power outage
In Response To: Re: power outage ()

Don't know anything about Alden Brand. The more important thing is what engine does it have (Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, etc). Of course, the people selling them are going to say they're good (even if they aren't). The other factor is the wattage rating. Some of the smaller generators only have 2500-3500W rating - which means you could power a couple hair dryers. This would still handle the two 100W trouble lights with no problem. Please bear in mind that I am not an expert on these things. The 5000-6500W generators I mentioned earlier could run a number of things like some lighting, fridge, microwave, couple of 1500W portable room heaters, etc., (but not the whole house). I also do not claim to be the teacher, either.

: It's really funny...there is an old adage, "when the student is
: ready, the teacher will appear.:"

: Yesterday, I am in a goofy home and builders supplies outlet store in
: Waukegan, Il...named HOBO...and lo and behold, there is an ALDEN
: generator, they have about a dozen of them, closing them out for
: $399...the things are brand new...and they all have 220 v. plugs and
: are listed to go up to 240v....fellas there tell me they can't move
: them out fast enough, people are gobbling them like they are
: chocolate bars...gasoline engines...

: Your question, Markie, was mine...my tub is wired to an outdoor
: outlet...and you, Tom, answered it for me...I was going to call my
: electrician to see how we could jerryrig something up...and go back
: and get one...

: Any of you know anything about this brand...the fellas say it's a really
: good one...it needs to stay outside the house...and they say what you
: do is plug in a six outlet cord into the 120 line and plug in all
: your appliances on long cords to the outside of the house if there is
: a power failure...and of course, you gotta keep it filled with
: gasoline...

: like to hear your opinion on this thing...if anyone has one..
