The number 1 question if you're speaking to someone on the phone should be: "Can it see it in operation". If the answer is it's not running now but it was running fun when I last had it oerpational you may want to take the pessimistic route. You want to take it through it's paces.

The warranty almost definitely will not be transferable (I know that may be a surprise but it's true) so don't let the owner try to play that up as it'll do you no good.
