Regarding generators: The $10k (sometimes alot more)generator would be a "whole house" generator where you could keep everything going as normal. The $500-$2K generators are more for just keeping a few essential things going (furnace blower, fridge, hot tub, some lighting) but not an all electric home with all electric heating, electric hot water heater, etc. So, if all you were going to power up was your hot tub, the $1k unit would do it.
Also, I didn't think to mention it (assuming it was self-evident) but John (n1oty) did regarding that these bulbs would need to be inefficent incandescent or Halogen and not flourescent, LED, etc. (Thanks John).
: thanks...you are the first one to explain it to me so that it actually
: sounded plausible...I guess all those folks in the east who have tubs
: have frozen pipes since many areas have been without power for
: several days...
: as to the question of putting in a generator, the fella who said $1000
: is a tad too low. My friend's son just put a generator into his home
: which is about a 2600 sq. ft. residence, and by the time he got
: through doing all the stuff he needed to have done to make it work,
: it came to close to $10000....don't know why...but that's what she
: said it cost him to do the job adequately. If that happens to me
: maybe I will go out and buy a whole bunch of those big battery
: fishing lanterns they use in the huts on the lake and put them inside
: the spa cabinet...two or three of them would probably give off the
: kind of heat required.
: Let us push for an early spring...winter has really gotten to be a major
: nuisance in our country this year...
