I have used dishwasher soap (Cascade)and it works very well. I actually got the tip to use dishwasher soap from a friend that installs hot tubs. Let it soak for about 24hours and rinse it very well afterwards. I also let it completely dry before reinstalling it. I have two filters, so I just swap them out every month.
