I have a Sundance Spa and the manual talks about the filter compressing during operation. According to the manual there is a normal amount of compression that is acceptable and there is a picture of how the filter might look when compressed. Have you checked the manual to see if your filter looks like what is shown in the manual? If you don't have your manual, here is a link to the manual on a Sundance site. Could be helpful.
