Sundance filter crushed

I have a new (6 months old)2006 Sundance Optima. I noticed the water not staying as clear so, I checked on the filter. 1/2 of the filter is crushed in. Do you have any idea what would have caused this? It is almost time for me to get a new one so I will be replacing it, but I wondered what would have caused the filter to be crushed. I have had workman in the house who keep inadvertently shutting the power off to the hot tub. Could this have caused it?
