Thanks for all the responses. I recently changed the cover so I don't believe it is part of the cover. As far as the pieces they are definitely hard pieces of probably calcium carbonate. I know with our local water system we have been getting the white build up of residue on our shower heads and so forth. We do not have a water softener for our system so the only way I can soften the water is by changing the calcium levels of the tub. No would I want to add more calcium to make the water softer to evantually get rid of the deposits, or leave the calcium levels lower? I will try to do more research on the calcium carbonate, but will a stain and scale remover help in this case? I know the test strips are subject to intrepation, but they seem pretty well on to good settings for all the chemicals. I just refilled the tub so the only reading that was seemed to be really off was the calcium level. Again thanks.
