How old is your spa?
This is not an uncommon problem with the Covermate 3. They tend to put constant upward pressure on the hinge and if installed certain ways will put a lot of pressure on the hinge.
More than likely though, the cover lift isn't installed correctly. The U-shaped retainer clip go COMPLETELY under the hinge. They do NOT go in between layers of the hinge. You might want to contact your dealer or Artesian and see if they'll cover it under warranty.
