How long should my hot tub pump be running?

I recently had my hot tub (2002 Gulf Coast Boca Grande) serviced, it needed a new heater element. While replacing it, the technician who came to my house told me that I was not getting any benefit from my ozonator since the tubs pump was only running two hours twice daily. He told me that the ozonator really needs to be running 16 hours daily for the tub to benefit, so if I was going to run it 16 hours why not just run 2-12 hours cycles and reduce any on & off type wear and tear on the pump, motors, heater, etc. This was the first time I had anyone come out to work on the tub since we bought it and of course the first time anything like this had been suggested to me.

Since the tub's pump is in a constant "on" cycle, I am wondering exactly how much more electricity is being used (has only been operating this way for 5 days so far) and will not know until I get the next electricity bill and hopefully not much "sticker shock". That is why I am asking if this is really going to be that much more beneficial to the tub before I let this go on too long.

Thank you, Rich
