If I owned it I'd be wiping away tears while sitting in it thinking about the energy bill!

I'll bet there are well insulated spas that probably would cost you $100 less per month to operate. Part of the reason this spa appeals to people is a seemingly low purchase price but as you're discovering, a "cheap" spa like this becomes very expensive to own when it isn't well insulated!! I wouldn't wait to add insulation.
